Printing apparatus to which optional unit is connected, program update method for printing apparatus, and storage medium

A printing apparatus comprising:

• a printing unit configured to perform printing, the printing unit configured to be connected to an optional finisher unit that performs finishing processing on sheets on which printing has been performed;
• a memory configured to store a finisher unit program for controlling a finisher unit, wherein the memory stores the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit prior to the finisher unit being connected to the printing unit;
• and
• one or more processors configured to execute instructions that, when executed, cause the printing apparatus to:
• acquire identification information from the finisher unit for identifying a first model identifier of the printing apparatus which is supported by the finisher unit program after the finisher unit is connected to the printing unit;
• verify the first model identifier indicated by the acquired identifying information and a second model identifier corresponding to a program of a main system program group of the printing apparatus and stored in the printing apparatus to determine whether the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus;
• and
• in a case where it is determined that the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus, upload the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit in the memory to the finisher unit in the printing apparatus, wherein the finisher unit program for controlling the unit is corresponding to the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus.

A program upload method for a printing apparatus including a printing unit configured to perform printing, the printing unit configured to be connected to an optional finisher unit that performs finishing processing on sheets on which printing has been performed, and a memory configured to store a finisher unit program for controlling a finisher unit, wherein the memory stores the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit prior to the finisher unit being connected to the printing unit, the program upload method comprising:

• acquiring identification information from the finisher unit for identifying a first model identifier of the printing apparatus which is supported by the finisher unit program after the finisher unit is connected to the printing unit;
• verifying the first model identifier indicated by the acquired identifying information and a second model identifier corresponding to a program of a main system program group of the printing apparatus and stored in the printing apparatus to determine whether the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus;
• and
• in a case where it is determined that the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus, uploading the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit in the memory to the finisher unit in the printing apparatus, wherein the finisher unit program for controlling the unit is corresponding to the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a computer-executable program for executing a program upload method for a printing apparatus including a printing unit configured to perform printing, the printing unit configured to be connected to an optional finisher unit that performs finishing processing on sheets on which printing has been performed, and a memory configured to store a finisher unit program for controlling a finisher unit, wherein the memory stores the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit prior to the finisher unit being connected to the printing unit, the program upload method comprising:

• acquiring identification information from the finisher unit for identifying a first model identifier of the printing apparatus which is supported by the finisher unit program after the finisher unit is connected to the printing unit;
• verifying the first model identifier indicated by the acquired identifying information and a second model identifier corresponding to a program of a main system program group of the printing apparatus and stored in the printing apparatus to determine whether the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus;
• and
• in a case where it is determined that the finisher unit program is compatible with the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus, uploading the finisher unit program for controlling the finisher unit in the memory to the finisher unit in the printing apparatus, wherein the finisher unit program for controlling the unit is corresponding to the program of the main system program group of the printing apparatus.
