Abstract
A search engine is configured to return increased diversity results based on past user interactions with search results. For a given query, historical data is analyzed to generate an item score describing a past quantity of users that navigated to a given page of an item. The historical data can further be used to generate a category score describing a past quantity of users that navigated to a given category of items. The category of items can be analyzed to generate a diversity score describing their diversity with respect to each other. Results for the given query can be arranged using items scores, category scores, and diversity scores.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, from a client device, a query for an item;
- retrieving, from a database, a plurality of items as search results for the query;
- retrieving historical user data comprising browse data that describes interactions of past users with the plurality of items through a network site;
- generating, using one or more processors of a machine, item transition scores for each of the items in the plurality of items;
- ranking the plurality of items according to the item transition scores;
- and
- causing, on the client device, presentation of a user interface displaying the plurality of items ranked according to the item transition scores.
A system comprising:
- one or more processors of a machine;
- and
- a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, from a client device, a query for an item;
- retrieving, from a database, a plurality of items as search results for the query;
- retrieving historical user data comprising browse data that describes interactions of past users with the plurality of items through a network site;
- generating item transition scores for each of the items in the plurality of items;
- ranking the plurality of items according to the item transition scores;
- and
- causing, on the client device, presentation of a user interface displaying the plurality of items ranked according to the item transition scores.
A machine storage device embodying instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, from a client device, a query for an item;
- retrieving, from a database, a plurality of items as search results for the query;
- retrieving historical user data comprising browse data that describes interactions of past users with the plurality of items through a network site;
- generating item transition scores for each of the items in the plurality of items;
- ranking the plurality of items according to the item transition scores;
- and causing, on the client device, presentation of a user interface displaying the plurality of
- items ranked according to the item transition scores.
