Abstract
A through-casing formation monitoring system may include a casing string positioned within a wellbore, a power source electrically coupled to the casing string, a voltage sensor electrically coupled to an inner surface of the casing string such that the voltage sensor allows a continued operation of the wellbore, a fiber optic cable coupled to an electro-optical transducer within the voltage sensor, and an optical interrogation system configured to measure an electric potential applied to the electro-optical transducer via the fiber optic cable.
Claims26
A through-casing formation monitoring system, comprising:
- a casing string positioned within a wellbore;
- a power source electrically coupled to the casing string;
- a voltage sensor electrically coupled to an inner surface of the casing string such that the voltage sensor allows a continued operation of the wellbore;
- a fiber optic cable coupled to an electro-optical transducer within the voltage sensor;
- and
- an optical interrogation system configured to measure an electric potential applied to the electro-optical transducer via the fiber optic cable.
A method of monitoring a formation, comprising:
- electrically connecting a voltage sensor to an inner surface of a casing string positioned within a wellbore such that the voltage sensor allows a continued operation of the wellbore;
- injecting an electric current from a power source into the casing string;
- measuring an electric potential applied to an electro-optical transducer within the voltage sensor;
- and
- receiving a measurement of the electric potential from the voltage sensor at an optical interrogation system via a fiber optic cable.
The method of claim 14, wherein the electric current from the power source is injected to the first electrode and the second electrode at the same time.
A sensor device, comprising:
- a first electrode and a second electrode electrically coupled to an inner surface of a casing string within a wellbore;
- and
- an electro-optical transducer electrically coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode.
