Abstract
Methods and system for operating a heat pump in different operating modes and providing a predictable heat pump response when the heat pump is transitioned between the different operating modes are presented. In one example, a controller that includes executable instructions for providing a bumpless compressor command for operating the heat pump is disclosed.

A heat pump method, comprising:
- providing a compressor command via adjusting a sum of a first proportional/integral/derivative (PID) controller output and a second PID controller output based on a difference between the sum of the first PID controller output and the second PID controller output and a sum of a third PID controller output and the second PID controller output;
- and
- operating a compressor in response to the compressor command.
A vehicle system, comprising:
- a heat pump system;
- and
- a controller including executable instructions stored in non-transitory memory for providing a bumpless compressor command between a transition between two different heat pump operating modes.
