Abstract
Methods and devices for delivering a dose, such as a medicament, for inhalation. A dose may be stored by a delivery device and dispersed and delivered in a metered fashion to a subject, such as by the subject inhaling via a mouthpiece of the delivery device. One or more chambers of the device may have a toroidal shape and may be arranged to be selectively opened for fluid communication with a flow path of the delivery device, such as by sliding the chamber relative to a portion of the flow path. The flow path may include a restriction that permits air to bypass the chamber, and/or the chamber may be arranged so that fluid entering the chamber interacts with fluid exiting the chamber so as to enhance dispersion of the dose.
Claims12
A device for storing and delivering medicament, the device comprising:
- a first portion defining an outlet opening for communication with a fluid flow path;
- and
- a second portion at least partially defining a chamber configured for storing, dispersing and delivering a medicament, the chamber having an interior surface and the second portion being engaged with the first portion for slidable movement along a linear path relative to the first portion from a closed position to an open position to permit flow into the chamber and permit fluid communication between the chamber and the fluid flow path, the interior surface having a curved section configured to receive fluid flow in the chamber and to redirect at least a portion of the fluid flow toward and through fluid flow entering the chamber with the chamber in the open position, a first portion of the redirected fluid flow exiting the chamber to the fluid flow path via the outlet opening and a second portion of the redirected fluid flow remaining in the chamber.
