Abstract
A castor wheel support for a towed agricultural implement. The castor support has a spindle for supporting a castor mounting structure for pivoting movement. The castor mounting structure includes an annular friction element received over the spindle and a plurality of C-shaped shims removable laterally without disassembly of the mounting structure to allow the pressure on the friction element to be set to minimize wobbling.
Claims20
A castor support assembly for a wheel, said support assembly comprising:
- a base;
- a spindle extending downward from said base;
- a castor mounting structure having a bore received over said spindle to permit pivoting movement about said spindle and an axle for rotatably mounting the wheel;
- a thrust bearing on said spindle between said base and said caster mounting structure;
- a removable disk secured to the end of said spindle;
- an annular friction element received over said spindle between said castor mounting structure and said removable disk;
- and,
- a plurality of shims of predetermined thickness positioned between the end of said spindle and said removable disk for setting the clearance between said friction element and the end of said castor mounting structure to inhibit oscillation of said castor support assembly.
An agricultural implement for towed movement over in a forward direction over a field, said implement comprising:
- a frame extending laterally relative to the direction of movement;
- a base;
- an articulated structural interconnection between said base and said frame;
- a spindle extending downward from said base;
- a castor mounting structure having a bore received over said spindle to permit pivoting movement about said spindle and an axle for rotatably mounting a wheel;
- a wheel mounted for rotation on said axle;
- a thrust bearing on said spindle between said base and said castor mounting structure;
- a removable disk secured to the end of said spindle;
- an annular friction element received over said spindle between said castor mounting structure and said removable disk;
- and,
- a plurality of shims of predetermined thickness positioned between the end of the spindle and said removable disk for setting the clearance between the friction element and the end of said castor mounting structure to inhibit oscillation of said castor support assembly.
