Abstract
The present disclosure relates, inter alia, to compositions and methods for treating viral diseases and cancer. There are disclosed lipophilic antiviral and anticancer acyclic nucleoside phosphonate diesters, preparation thereof, and methods of using the compounds to treat viral diseases and cancer.

A compound of Formula (Ia) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- wherein:
- BNuc(a) is a naturally occurring pyrimidine or a naturally occurring purine,
- La is a C12-24 alkyl, a C13-29 heteroalkyl, or a glyceryl moiety substituted with one or more groups selected from a C13-29 alkyl, a C13-29 heteroalkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl(C1-6 alkyl), a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl(C1-6 alkyl), and a substituted or unsubstituted heterocycloalkyl(C1-6 alkyl);
- Ra is a C1-6 alkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl, a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocycloalkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl(C1-6 alkyl), a substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl(C1-6 alkyl) and a substituted or unsubstituted heterocycloalkyl(C1-6 alkyl);
- and
- Xa is a C1-6 alkyl, a halogen substituted C1-6 alkyl, or a C1-6 alkoxy.
