An intraocular lens comprises a lens body customized for astigmatism in a particular eye. For the customization to work, the astigmatism in the lens has to be aligned with astigmatism in the eye. Thus the intraocular lens comprises four protrusions arranged outwardly around the lens body to form the four corners of a substantially rectangular profile. The profile locks the intraocular lens into a position of rotational stability when inserted into a capsular bag, thus preventing rotation of the intraocular lens, which would otherwise tend to occur both immediately after insertion into the capsular bag and later on during growth, shrinkage or other change to the capsular bag. The Intraocular lens may additionally be customized for other eye conditions and a multi-focal embodiment is also disclosed.
An intraocular lens comprising:
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, further comprising orientation markers to distinguish different orientations of said intraocular lens.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, further comprising axis markers to distinguish an optical axis of said intraocular lens.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, comprising an overall length along a diagonal of substantially rectangular shape, said overall length being customized according to an estimated size of a respective capsular bag.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, having a cylindrical profile to treat astigmatism.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, having a toric profile to treat astigmatism.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, having an aspherical profile to treat astigmatism.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, further comprising a diffractive lens.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, said lens body having two opposite sides, wherein a first side has an aspheric profile and a diffractive pattern formed thereon, and said second side has a toric profile.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said toric profile is devoid of spherical aberration and wherein a cylinder value characterizing said lens body is at least 1 Diopter.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said diffractive pattern comprises a plurality of concentric annular zones having surfaces separated by slanted steps having surfaces, wherein said surfaces of said concentric zones effect both diffraction and refraction of incident light, while said surfaces of said steps are substantially devoid of any diffractive or refractive power.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said lens body is made of biocompatible material.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said lens body comprises a hydrophilic acrylic material.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said lens body comprises a polymeric or co-polymeric composition, and at least one curcuminoid compound incorporated in or on said polymeric or co-polymeric composition and/or said lens body.
The intraocular lens of any one of the preceding claims, wherein said lens body comprises a co-polymeric composition having a polymeric backbone composed of a plurality of backbone units covalently linked to one another, said backbone units being derived from a pre-polymerization mixture of monomers.
