Switch assemblies for multi-function surgical instruments and surgical instruments incorporating the same

A surgical instrument, comprising:

• a bipolar assembly configured to conduct energy through tissue;
• a monopolar assembly configured to apply energy to tissue;
• a switch assembly configured for switching between a first condition, wherein the bipolar assembly is coupled to a source of energy, and a second condition, wherein the monopolar assembly is coupled to the source of energy, the switch assembly including:
• a first bipolar input having a pair of first bipolar contact plates;
• a first bipolar output coupled to a first plate of the pair of first bipolar contact plates and configured to selectively couple to a second plate of the pair of first bipolar contact plates;
• a monopolar input having a pair of monopolar contact plates;
• and
• a monopolar output coupled to a first plate of the pair of monopolar contact plates and configured to selectively couple to a second plate of the pair of monopolar contact plates;
• and
• a movable member coupled to the switch assembly, the movable member movable between:
• a first position wherein the movable member engages the first bipolar output and urges the first bipolar output to couple to the second plate of the pair of first bipolar contact plates such that the bipolar assembly is coupled to the source of energy;
• and
• a second position wherein the movable member engages the monopolar output and urges the monopolar output to couple to the second plate of the pair of monopolar contact plates such that the monopolar assembly is coupled to the source of energy.
