Slideable extinguisher

A smoking article having a proximal end and a distal end, comprising:

• a combustible heat source disposed at the distal end of the smoking article;
• an aerosol-forming substrate disposed downstream of the combustible heat source;
• a mouthpiece disposed downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate and at the proximal end of the smoking article;
• and
• a tubular element slideable from a first position towards the distal end of the smoking article to a second position,
• wherein, in the second position, the tubular element at least partially extends over the combustible heat source, and
• wherein the tubular element is lined with a heat reactive material configured to deform in response to heat from the combustible heat source when the tubular element is in the second position, the heat reactive material comprising an intumescent material.

A smoking article having a proximal end and a distal end, comprising:

• a combustible heat source disposed at the distal end of the smoking article;
• an aerosol-forming substrate disposed downstream of the combustible heat source;
• a mouthpiece disposed downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate and at the proximal end of the smoking article;
• and
• a tubular element slideable from a first position towards the distal end of the smoking article to a second position,
• wherein, in the second position, the tubular element at least partially extends over the combustible heat source, and
• wherein the tubular element is lined with a heat reactive material configured to deform in response to heat from the combustible heat source when the tubular element is in the second position, the heat reactive material comprising a heat-shrink material.
