Abstract
The disclosure generally provides methods of making natural oil-derived polyol compounds from compositions that include self-metathesized oligomers of natural oils, including methods of using such polyols to make polyurethane compositions, such as polyurethane foams.
Claims20
A method of making a natural oil-derived polyol, the method comprising:
- providing a metathesized natural oil composition, which comprises metathesis oligomers of unsaturated natural oil glycerides, wherein the metathesis oligomers comprise one or more carbon-carbon double bonds, and are formed by reacting two or more unsaturated natural oil glycerides in the presence of a metathesis catalyst;
- and
- reacting at least one of the one or more carbon-carbon double bonds in the metathesis oligomers to form a polyol.
