Abstract
Systems and methods for mitigating the formation of heterotopic ossification lesions by delivering a neuromuscular inhibitor employ a delivery device to distribute injection of the neuromuscular inhibitor. A delivery device for delivering the neuromuscular inhibitor can include an injector body, a device body for spacing the injector body from a target delivery location, and a plurality of needles; or can include an injector guide having multiple guide holes and an injector needle for delivering the neuromuscular inhibitor via the guide holes.
Claims25
A delivery device assembly for distributing a dose of a neuromuscular inhibitor to a muscle volume susceptible to heterotopic ossification (HO), the delivery device assembly comprising:
- an injector body having a shaped surface configured for complimenting a shape of the muscle volume susceptible to HO;
- and
- a plurality of needles connected with the injector body and sized to penetrate to an intramuscular depth, wherein the injector body and the plurality of needles are operably connected such that the plurality of needles can distribute the dose of the neuromuscular inhibitor to the muscle volume susceptible to HO, and wherein the plurality of needles are positioned to penetrate the muscle volume susceptible to HO in at least two locations.
A method of inhibiting heterotopic ossification, the method comprising:
- identifying a muscle volume susceptible to HO;
- delivering a first aliquot of a therapeutic dose of a neuromuscular inhibitor at a first delivery site within the muscle volume susceptible to HO;
- and
- delivering a second aliquot of the therapeutic dose of the neuromuscular inhibitor at a second delivery site within the muscle volume susceptible to HO at a first distance from the first delivery site such that HO of the muscle volume susceptible to HO is inhibited.
A system for inhibiting the formation of heterotopic ossification lesions, the system comprising:
- a guide member having a first shaped surface configured to compliment a shape of a muscle volume susceptible to HO;
- and
- a delivery device configured to interface with the guide member, the delivery device comprising:
- at least one reservoir containing a neuromuscular inhibitor;
- at least one needle sized to penetrate to one or more intramuscular depth(s) such that, when inserted into the muscle volume susceptible to HO, a needle end of the at least one needle is positioned in the muscle volume susceptible to HO;
- and
- an injector fluidly connected with the reservoir and configured to eject a plurality of aliquots of the neuromuscular inhibitor into the muscle volume susceptible to HO via the at least one needle and the guide member, wherein the at least one needle is spatially arranged to pass through the guide member and extend from the guide member to a depth sufficient to penetrate the muscle volume susceptible to HO.
