Abstract
An irrigation and aspiration system is disclosed. The system can be configured to aspirate and irrigate alone, sequentially or concurrently. The system can be configured to aspirate and irrigate the nasal cavity. The system can be manually controlled. The system can have removable and easily cleanable reservoirs for aspirant and irrigant.
Claims20
A portable, handheld device for irrigating with an irrigant and aspirating biological tissue and/or secretions comprising:
- a body;
- a head having an irritant port and an aspirant port, wherein the head is removably connectable to the body, and wherein at least a portion of the head comprises a compliant surface sealable against a nostril;
- an irrigant reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- an aspirant reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- an irrigation channel comprising a head irrigation channel and a body irrigation channel, wherein the head irrigation channel terminates at the irrigant port, and wherein the head irrigation channel is in fluid communication with the body irrigation channel when the head is removably connected to the body;
- an aspiration channel comprising a head aspiration channel and a body aspiration channel, wherein the head aspiration channel terminates at the aspirant port, and wherein the head aspiration channel is in fluid communication with the body aspiration channel when the head is removably connected to the body;
- a fluid control system comprising a pump, wherein an irrigation pressure is controllable by the fluid control system, wherein an aspiration pressure is controllable by the fluid control system, and wherein the irrigation pressure and the aspiration pressure are simultaneously controllable by the fluid control system;
- and
- a multi-state control electrically connected to the fluid control system, wherein the multi-state control has a first activated state and a second activated state, wherein when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, the aspiration pressure is activated by the fluid control system, and wherein when the multi-state control is in the second activated state, the irrigation pressure is activated by the fluid control system,
- wherein the aspirant reservoir is in fluid communication with the aspirant port when the aspirant reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, and
- wherein the irritant reservoir is in fluid communication with the irrigant port when the irrigant reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the second activated state.
A portable, handheld device for irrigating with an irrigant and aspirating biological tissue and/or secretions comprising:
- a body;
- a head having a first port and a second port, wherein the head is removably connectable to the body, and wherein at least a portion of the head comprises a compliant surface sealable against a nostril;
- a first reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- a second reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- a first channel comprising a head first channel and a body first channel, wherein the head first channel terminates at the first port, and wherein the head first channel is in fluid communication with the body first channel when the head is removably connected to the body;
- a second channel comprising a head second channel and a body second channel, wherein the head second channel terminates at the second port, and wherein the head second channel is in fluid communication with the body second channel when the head is removably connected to the body;
- a fluid control system comprising a pump, wherein irrigation is controllable by the fluid control system, wherein aspiration is controllable by the fluid control system, and wherein irrigation is controllable concurrently with aspiration by the fluid control system;
- and
- a multi-state control, wherein the multi-state control has a first activated state and a second activated state, wherein when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, aspiration is activated by the fluid control system, and wherein when the multi-state control is in the second activated state, irrigation is activated by the fluid control system,
- wherein the first reservoir is in fluid communication with the first port when the first reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, and
- wherein the second reservoir is in fluid communication with the second port when the second reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the second activated state.
A portable, handheld device for irrigating with an irrigant and aspirating biological tissue and/or secretions comprising:
- a body;
- a first channel having a first port, the first channel removably connectable to the body;
- a second channel having a second port, the second channel removably connectable to the body;
- a first reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- a second reservoir removably connectable to the body;
- a fluid control system comprising a pump, wherein irrigation is controllable by the fluid control system, wherein aspiration is controllable by the fluid control system, and wherein irrigation is controllable concurrently with aspiration by the fluid control system;
- and
- a multi-state control, wherein the multi-state control has a first activated state and a second activated state, wherein when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, aspiration is activated by the fluid control system, and wherein when the multi-state control is in the second activated state, irrigation is activated by the fluid control system,
- wherein the first reservoir is in fluid communication with the first port when the first reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the first activated state, and
- wherein the second reservoir is in fluid communication with the second port when the second reservoir is removably connected to the body and when the multi-state control is in the second activated state.
