Abstract
A system, method, and apparatus are disclosed for dressing a wound. The apparatus comprises a liquid and gas permeable transmission layer, an absorbent layer for absorbing wound exudate, the absorbent layer overlying the transmission layer, a gas impermeable cover layer overlying the absorbent layer and comprising a first orifice, wherein the cover layer is moisture vapor permeable.

A wound treatment apparatus comprising:
- a wound dressing having a length extending between a first side and an opposing second side and a width extending between a third side and an opposing fourth side, the wound dressing comprising:
- an absorbent layer;
- at least one lower layer positioned beneath the absorbent layer, the at least one lower layer comprising a plurality of channels or vias each extending partially along the length of the wound dressing and parallel to the length of the wound dressing;
- and
- a cover layer overlying the absorbent layer and comprising an orifice configured to communicate negative pressure from a source of negative pressure to a wound site through at least the absorbent layer and the at least one lower layer.
A wound treatment apparatus comprising:
- a wound dressing having a length extending between a first side and an opposing second side and a width extending between a third side and an opposing fourth side, the wound dressing comprising:
- a cover layer comprising an orifice;
- a foam layer positioned beneath the cover layer;
- and
- at least one lower layer positioned beneath the foam layer, the at least one lower layer comprising a plurality of channels or vias each extending partially along the length of the wound dressing and parallel to the length of the wound dressing;
- wherein the orifice in the cover layer is configured to communicate negative pressure from a source of negative pressure to a wound site through at least the foam layer and the at least one lower layer.
A wound treatment apparatus comprising:
- a wound dressing comprising:
- a flexible, perforated wound contact layer;
- a transmission layer positioned above the wound contact layer;
- an absorbent layer positioned above the transmission layer;
- and
- a cover layer comprising an orifice, the cover layer overlying the wound contact layer, the transmission layer and the absorbent layer;
- wherein the orifice in the cover layer is configured to communicate negative pressure from a source of negative pressure to a wound site through at least the absorbent layer, the transmission layer and the wound contact layer;
- and
- wherein the absorbent layer comprises a through hole situated underneath the orifice.
