## Abstract

Dermatological conditions/afflictions such as rosacea, common acne, seborrheic dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, acneform rashes, transient acantholytic dermatosis, and acne necrotica miliaris, most notably rosacea, are treated by topically applying onto the affected skin area of an individual in need of such treatment, a topical pharmaceutical composition which comprises a thus effective amount of ivermectin.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treating rosacea, the method comprising topically applying onto an affected skin area of an individual in need of such treatment, a topically applicable composition comprising:
1% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition of ivermectin;
an oily phase comprising fatty substances;
a solvent and/or propenetrating agent; and
water in an amount of from about 30% to 95% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition; and
wherein the ivermectin is chemically stable in the composition over a period of time of 8 weeks.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the solvent and/or propenetrating agent is selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidione, DMSO, polysorbate 80, phenoxyethanol, or mixtures thereof.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the oily phase comprises dimethicone, cyclomethicone, isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate, or mixtures thereof.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 3, wherein the oily phase further comprises at least one fatty substance selected from the group consisting of cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, stearic acid, palmitostearic acid, and a self-emulisifiable wax.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises at least one surfactant-emulsifier selected from the group consisting of glyceryl/PEG 100 stearate, sorbitan monostearate, sorbitan palmitate, steareth-20, steareth-21, and ceteareth-20.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 5, wherein the at least one surfactant-emulsifier is present in an amount of from 2% to 12% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises at least one gelling agent selected from the group consisting of a carbomer, a cellulose gelling agent, a xanthum gum, an aluminum magnesium silicate but excluding an aluminum magnesium silicate/titanium dioxide/silica, a guar gum, a polyacrylamide, and a modified starch.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 7, wherein the at least one gelling agent is present in the composition in an amount of from 0.01% to 5% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition is in a form selected from the group consisting of an ointment, a cream, a milk, a pomade, an impregnated pad, a syndet, a towelette, a gel, a spray, a foam, a lotion, a stick, a shampoo, a suspension of microspheres, a suspension of nanospheres, a suspension of lipid vesicles, a suspension of polymeric vesicles, a polymeric patch, and a hydrogel for controlled release.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the solvent and/or propenetrating agent is present in an amount of from 1% to 20% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the oily phase is present in an amount of from 6% to 20% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition is chemically stable over a period of time of 12 weeks.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition is chemically stable in the composition over a period of time of two months at a pH of about 4.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition is chemically stable in the composition over a period of time of two months at a pH of about 5.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The method of treating rosacea as defined by claim 1, wherein the composition is chemically stable in the composition over a period of time of two months at a pH of about 6.
