## Abstract

A pair of electronic displays are placed back to back and are configured for mounting to a vehicle. A pair of thermal plates are located behind the electronic displays and a pair of transparent plates are located in front of the electronic displays. A closed loop of air travels vertically through the space between the electronic displays and transparent panels and through a closed loop plenum. An open loop of air travels horizontally through the space between thermal plates and the rear surface of the electronic displays.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A display assembly for mounting on a vehicle comprising:
a first and second electronic display positioned back to back;
a first and second transparent panel, each positioned in front of one of the first and second electronic displays;
an open loop pathway located between the first and second electronic displays and configured to receive ambient air;
a closed loop pathway configured to receive circulating gas and comprising:
a first and second channel defined by the first and second transparent panels and the first and second electronic displays, respectively, and
a plenum located between the first and second electronic displays and in gaseous communication with the channels; and
a housing adapted to be mounted to the roof of a vehicle, wherein the housing and the first and second transparent panels create an enclosure substantially surrounding the first and second electronic displays, the open loop pathway, and the closed loop pathway;
wherein the closed loop pathway and the open loop pathway are configured to transfer thermal energy from the circulating gas to the ambient air while not allow the circulating gas and the ambient air to mix in any substantial manner.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The display assembly of claim 1, further comprising:
a first and second thermal plate, each placed behind a rear surface of one of the first and second electronic displays.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The display assembly of claim 2, further comprising:
a number of electronic components mounted to a rear surface of at least one of the thermal plates.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The display assembly of claim 2, further comprising:
a first and second open loop channel, each defined by the first and second thermal plates and the rear surface of the first and second electronic displays, respectively.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The display assembly of claim 4, wherein:
the open loop pathway comprises the first and second open loop channels.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The display assembly of claim 5, wherein:
the open loop pathway is configured such that ambient air travels horizontally through the first and second open loop channels.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The display assembly of claim 1, wherein:
the closed loop pathway is configured such that closed loop air travels vertically through the first and second channels and the plenum.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The display assembly of claim 1, wherein:
the open loop pathway further comprises:
an inlet aperture located in the housing for ingesting ambient air, and
an exhaust aperture located in the housing for exhausting ambient air.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The display assembly of claim 8, wherein:
the open loop pathway further comprises:
a number of entrance apertures in gaseous communication with the inlet aperture and the first and second open loop channels, and
a number of exit apertures in gaseous communication with the first and second open loop channels and the exhaust aperture.

### Claim 10 (depends on 5)

The display assembly of claim 5, wherein:
the closed loop pathway comprises a first and second flow wherein the first and second flows vertically encircle the first and second electronic display, respectively.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The display assembly of claim 10, wherein:
the first and second open loop channels pass through the middle of the first and second flows.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The display assembly of claim 1, further comprising:
at least one open loop fan placed within the open loop pathway and configured to propel ambient air through the open loop pathway.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The display assembly of claim 1, further comprising:
at least one closed loop fan placed with the closed loop pathway and configured to propel circulating gas through the closed loop pathway.

### Claim 14

A display assembly for mounting on a vehicle comprising:
a pair of electronic displays placed back to back and having a front and a rear surface;
a pair of transparent panels, each positioned in front of the front surface of one the electronic displays;
a pair of closed loop channels, each located between one of the transparent panels and one of the electronic displays;
a pair of thermal plates, each positioned behind the rear surface of one of the electronic displays;
a pair of open loop channels, each located between one of the thermal plates and the rear surface of one of the electronic displays, wherein the open loop channels are configured to allow ambient air to pass horizontally therethrough; and
a closed loop plenum defined by the pair of thermal plates, wherein the closed loop plenum is in gaseous communication with the pair of closed loop channels;
wherein the closed loop channels and the closed loop plenum are configured to allow circulating gas to pass vertically therethrough.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)
