## Abstract

The present invention provides a method and system for storing and accessing medical records. The method includes anonymizing patient records, aggregating and analyzing the records, and storing the results of the analysis in a health informatics database. The system includes a database with patient records, a processor for anonymizing the patient records, a second database with anonymized patient records, an interface to access the second database, analyze the records and store the results, an output to display the results and a health informatics database to store the correlated record.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-implemented method to store and access medical records, comprising:
a. receiving a record within a first dataset, each record including a plurality of identification fields, which when combined collectively, uniquely identify an individual, and an at least one health care field corresponding to health care data associated with the individual;
b. associating a unique identifier with the identification fields in the record;
c. storing an anonymized record within a second dataset, each anonymized record in the second dataset comprising the health care fields and the associated unique identifier from the record in the first dataset;
d. interfacing the second dataset with a plurality of records from an other data set using a processor to map health care fields from the other data set to the health care fields in the second data set to form a combined data set;
e. classifying and analyzing the anonymized record in the combined data set based on at least one of the health care fields;
f. storing an output of the analysis as a correlated record in a health informatics database; and
g. displaying the output of the analysis on an output interface.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein a health care field is received and linked to an existing record in the first data set using the identification fields.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the health care field format can be any one of a data type selected from a group consisting of:
a. DICOM;
b. Non-DICOM;
c. Video;
d. Portable Document Format (PDF);
e. Extensible Markup Language (XML);
f. Audio;
g. Image; and
h. Text.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the anonymized record is stored in a hierarchical structure in which the health care fields are linked to the unique identifier and the health care fields comprise at least one of:
a. an information field; and
b. an intervention field associated with a cost field or a payer field.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein the information field can be any one of the group consisting of:
a. institution;
b. geographical location;
c. physician identification;
d. symptoms;
e. diagnosis code;
f. disease code;
g. tumour pathology code;
h. short-term outcome;
i. long-term outcome;
j. hospital admission; and
k. hospital discharge code.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein the intervention field can be any one of the group consisting of:
a. length of hospital stay;
b. pharmaceutical claim;
c. procedure code;
d. laboratory test code;
e. surgical information;
f. radiology procedure; and
g. rehabilitation procedure.

### Claim 7

(canceled)

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein classifying and analyzing the anonymized record comprises searching the combined dataset for records with a specified value in at least one of the health care fields.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the correlated record further comprises a group of medical records selected by the classification and analysis.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method according to claim 9, wherein the correlated record is further classified and analyzed based on at least one of the health care fields that is not the health care field used for the first classification and analysis.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein the health informatics database is stored on at least one of a local server; a cloud-based storage system; or a remote device.

### Claim 12

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein data from one health care field can be overlaid on data from a second health care field and the combined data is displayed on the output interface.

### Claim 14

### Claim 17

A system to store and access medical information comprising:
a. a database for storing a patient record, each record including a plurality of identification fields, which when combined collectively, identify an individual, and at least one health care field corresponding to health care data associated with the individual;
b. a second database;
c. a processor in communication with the first and second database for performing the steps of:
i. selecting a record from the first database;
ii. assigning a unique identifier based on the plurality of identification fields;
iii. storing in a second record in the second database the unique identifier as well as the at least one health care field from the selected record of the first database.
d. a processor and a memory with an executable application for mapping the unique identifier and health fields of an other database to the unique identifier and health fields of the second database to integrate the records from the other database with the records of the second database into a combined database;
