## Abstract

The invention provides in one aspect a method that includes identifying one or more rules for execution by a rules engine in order to generate a user interface. The method further includes executing, on a digital data processing system that comprises one or more digital data processors, a step of determining whether one or more aspects of the user interface generated as a result of execution of at least one of those rules is in conformity with one or more requirements. The system responds to a negative such determination, according to the method, by identifying modifications to generate a conforming user interface from those one or more rules, modifying one or more of those rules to generate a conforming user interface from (e.g., based directly or indirectly on) those one or more rules, and/or generating a conforming user interface from those one or more rules. The method further calls for storing to and/or generating as an output from the digital data processing system a result those step(s).

responding to a determination that the initial user interface is a non-conforming user interface by.
identifying modifications to the initial user interface that would make it a conforming user interface, where a conforming user interface is a user interface that is conformance with the one or more conformance requirements, wherein the modifications are identified based on at least one of workflow and decisioning rules contained among a plurality of rules stored in a rules base, the modifications including one or more of repositioning a field in the non-conforming user interface, removing a field from the non-conforming interface, changing a field property of a field in the non-conforming interface, changing a field type of a field in the non-conforming interface, and making a field of the non-conforming interface any of required and not required; and
performing any of: (i) generating a notification that specifies the identified modifications that would make the initial user interface a conforming user interface, (ii) modifying any of the initial markup language page and the initial markup language stream in accord with the identified modifications to generate any of a modified markup language page and modified markup language stream that represents a conforming user interface, and (iii) generating a conforming user interface in accord with the identified modifications from at least one of the initial markup language page and the initial markup language stream.
