Abstract
A request to change a configuration of a distributed file system that includes servers may be received. A subset of the servers that corresponds to a configuration cluster may be identified. Each of the servers in the configuration cluster may store configuration data of the distributed file system. The request to change the configuration of the distributed file system may be forwarded to a leader server of the configuration cluster. A response from the leader server may be received and the configuration data may be modified in view of the response from the leader server.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving a request to change a configuration of a distributed file system comprising a plurality of servers;
- identifying, by a processing device, a subset of the plurality of servers of the distributed file system that corresponds to a configuration cluster, wherein each of the servers in the configuration cluster stores configuration data of the distributed file system;
- forwarding the request to change the configuration of the distributed file system to a leader server of the configuration cluster;
- receiving a response from the leader server of the configuration cluster;
- and
- modifying configuration data of the subset of the servers in the configuration cluster of the distributed file system in view of the response from the leader server.
A system, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processing device operatively coupled with the memory to:
- receive a request to change a configuration of a distributed file system comprising a plurality of servers;
- identify a subset of the plurality of servers of the distributed file system that corresponds to a configuration cluster, wherein each of the servers in the configuration cluster stores configuration data of the distributed file system;
- forward the request to change the configuration of the distributed file system to a leader server of the configuration cluster;
- receive a response from the leader server of the configuration cluster;
- and
- modify configuration data of the subset of the servers in the configuration cluster of the distributed file system in view of the response from the leader server.
A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to:
- receive a request to add a new server to a distributed file system comprising a plurality of servers;
- identify a characteristic of the new server to the distributed file system;
- identify a configuration cluster comprising a subset of the plurality of servers of the distributed file system, wherein each of the servers that are currently included in the configuration cluster stores configuration data of the distributed file system;
- identify characteristics of the servers that are currently included in the configuration cluster;
- and
- determine whether the new server that is to be added to the distributed file system is to be included in the configuration cluster in view of the characteristic of the new server and the characteristics of the servers currently included in the configuration cluster.
