Abstract
Systems and processes are provided for instantly creating a user account with a payment service provider at a point of sale. The system and processes may include a computerized payment processing system for receiving personally identifiable information from a payment card of a customer provided at a merchant terminal and creating a user account based on the personally identifiable information. A personal identification number (PIN) associated with the user account may be generated and electronically delivered to the customer via an electronic messaging system for verification.
Claims20
A computerized transaction processing system, comprising:
- a non-transitory memory storing instructions;
- and
- one or more hardware processors coupled to the non-transitory memory and configured to read instructions from the non-transitory memory to cause the system to perform operations comprising:
- receiving personally identifiable information from a payment card of a customer provided at a merchant terminal;
- creating a user account based on the received personally identifiable information and storing the created user account in a database of the non-transitory memory;
- generating a personal identification number (PIN) associated with the user account;
- electronically delivering the PIN to the customer via an electronic messaging system, the PIN being electronically delivered to an electronic address obtained from the personally identifiable information;
- and
- verifying the customer is an owner of the payment card by invoking the customer to provide the electronically delivered PIN at the merchant terminal.
An electronic method for conducting a transaction from a merchant terminal at a point of sale (POS), the method comprising:
- transmitting, from the merchant terminal to a server associated with a payment service provider, personally identifiable information obtained from a payment card of a customer provided at the merchant terminal;
- receiving, by the merchant terminal from the server, a request to the customer to enter a personal identification number (PIN) associated with a user account of the payment service provider, the user account being automatically created by the server in response to the personally identifiable information transmitted by the merchant terminal;
- receiving the PIN at the merchant terminal from the customer in response to the request;
- transmitting the PIN from the merchant terminal to the server to confirm identity of the customer with the payment card;
- and
- receiving, by the merchant terminal, an authorization to execute a POS transaction in response to a confirmed verification of the identity.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon machine-readable instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:
- receiving personally identifiable information from a payment card of a customer provided at a merchant terminal;
- identifying a user account corresponding to the customer stored in a database of a server, based on the received personally identifiable information;
- and
- verifying that the identified user account belongs to the customer by invoking the customer to provide a personal identification number (PIN) at the merchant terminal.
