Abstract
Techniques for use in messaging from a portable communication device having a camera module are described. A first key for causing alphanumeric characters to be sent and a second key for causing a photographic image to be sent are provided on a display. During presentation of the user interface and of the alphanumeric character in a composition portion, a user input indicating selection of the second key is received. In response, a multi-step process is performed, including (a) controlling the camera module to capture the photographic image and (b) send the photographic image.
Claims20
A method performed by a communication device that includes a camera module, the method comprising:
- receiving, during presentation of a user interface, a user input indicating selection of an alphanumeric character;
- presenting, based on the user input, the alphanumeric character in a composition portion of the user interface;
- providing, on a display, a first key for causing at least the alphanumeric character to be sent and while the first key is provided on the display, providing a second key on the display, the second key for causing a photographic image to be sent;
- receiving, during presentation of the user interface and of the alphanumeric character in the composition portion, another user input indicating selection of the second key;
- and
- performing, in response to the another user input, a multi-step process including:
- a) controlling the camera module to capture the photographic image;
- and b) sending the photographic image,
- wherein the first key and second key are separate keys.
A portable communication device, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a camera module coupled to the one or more processors;
- a communication subsystem coupled to one or more of the processors;
- a display coupled to one or more of the processors;
- an input mechanism coupled to one or more of the processors;
- memory coupled to one or more of the processors, the memory including processor-executable instructions which, when executed, cause one or more of the processors to:
- receive, during presentation of a user interface on the display, a user input indicating selection of an alphanumeric character;
- present, based on the user input, the alphanumeric character in a composition portion of the user interface;
- provide, on the display, a first key on the display for causing at least the alphanumeric character to be sent and while the first key is provided on the display, providing a second key on the display, the second key for causing a photographic image to be sent;
- receive, during presentation of the user interface and of the alphanumeric character in the composition portion, another user input indicating selection of a second key;
- and
- perform, in response to the another user input, a multi-step process including:
- a) controlling the camera module to capture the photographic image;
- and b) sending the photographic image,
- wherein the first key and the second key are separate keys.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having encoded thereon computer-readable instructions for:
- receiving, during presentation of a user interface, a user input indicating selection of an alphanumeric character;
- presenting, based on the user input, the alphanumeric character in a composition portion of the user interface;
- providing, on a display, a first key for causing at least the alphanumeric character to be sent and while the first key is provided on the display, providing a second key on the display, the second key for causing a photographic image to be sent;
- receiving, during presentation of the user interface and of the alphanumeric character in the composition portion, another user input indicating selection of the second key;
- and
- performing, in response to the another user input, a multi-step process including:
- a) controlling a camera module to capture a photographic image;
- and b) sending the photographic image,
- wherein the first key and the second key are separate keys.
