Abstract
A sensor for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) includes a substrate, a working electrode formed on a surface of the substrate, a counter electrode formed on the surface of the substrate, a dielectric layer covering a portion of the working electrode and counter electrode and defining an aperture exposing other portions of the working electrode and counter electrode.
Claims22
A sensor for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) comprising:
- a substrate;
- a working electrode formed on a surface of the substrate;
- a counter electrode formed on the surface of the substrate;
- a dielectric layer covering a portion of the working electrode and counter electrode and defining an aperture exposing other portions of the working electrode and counter electrode;
- and
- a membrane covering exposed portions of the working electrode and counter electrode that facilitates an electrochemical oxidation reduction reaction with VOCs, the membrane including a polyelectrolyte film, a glycol, an acid for contributing protons, and a metal oxide, which enhances the hydration and conductivity of the membrane.
A biosensor for detection of acetone in a bodily sample, the biosensor comprising:
- a substrate;
- a working electrode formed on a surface of the substrate;
- a counter electrode formed on the surface of the substrate;
- a reference electrode formed on the surface of the substrate;
- a dielectric layer covering a portion of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode, the dielectric defining an aperture exposing other portions of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode;
- and
- a membrane covering the exposed portions of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode that that facilitates an electrochemical oxidation reduction reaction with acetone, the membrane including a polyelectrolyte film, a glycol, an acid for contributing protons, and a metal oxide, which enhances the hydration and conductivity of the membrane.
A biosensor for detection of acetone in breath, the biosensor comprising:
- a substrate;
- a working electrode formed on a surface of the substrate;
- a counter electrode formed on the surface of the substrate;
- a reference electrode formed on the surface of the substrate;
- a dielectric layer covering a portion of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode, the dielectric defining an aperture exposing other portions of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode;
- and
- a polyelectrolyte membrane covering the exposed portions of the working electrode, counter electrode, and reference electrode that that facilitates an electrochemical oxidation reduction reaction with acetone, the membrane including a perfluorosulfonic acid polymer, a diethylene glycol, sulfuric acid, and tungsten trioxide.
