A modified rocker assembly having an offset end is designed for engine heads having an obstruction preventing use of a symmetric switching rocker arm. The modified rocker assembly has an obstructed side and a non-obstructed side and has an outer structure with a first end, and an inner rocker structure fitting within the outer structure, the inner structure also having a first end. The modified rocker assembly has an axle pivotally connecting the first ends of inner structure to the outer structure, such that the inner structure pivots within the outer structure around the axle. At least one torsion spring on one side of the axle rotationally biases the inner structure relative to the outer structure. The outer structure is offset on the obstructed side as it extends from the second end toward the first end, creating the first offset portion to provide additional clearance on the obstructed side.
A modified rocker assembly, comprising:
A modified rocker assembly, comprising:
A modified rocker assembly, comprising:
The modified rocker assembly of claim 14 wherein as the outer structure on the first side extends from the second latching end toward the first end, the outer structure curves outwardly away from the second side to provide additional clearance for an additional biasing member on the first side and at least partially within the outer structure.
The modified rocker assembly of claim 14 wherein the biasing member is coupled to the inner structure, and engages the outer structure to rotationally bias the inner structure relative to the outer structure.
The modified rocker assembly of claim 14 wherein the modified rocker assembly is hydraulically coupled to an oil pressure source, and wherein the latch pin is responsive to move between the extended position and the retracted position in response to one oil pressure from the oil pressure source.
The modified rocker assembly of claim 14 wherein the latch pin in the extended position causes the modified rocker arm assembly to operate in a high lift mode, and wherein the latch pin in the retracted position causes the modified rocker arm assembly to operate in a low lift mode.
The modified rocker assembly of claim 14 wherein the latch pin in the extended position causes the modified rocker arm assembly to operate in a normal lift mode, and wherein the latch pin in the retracted position causes the modified rocker arm assembly to operate in a no lift mode.
