Abstract
Biomarkers and methods using the biomarkers for the prediction of the recurrence risk of cancer in a patient are provided.
Claims8
A method of treating prostate cancer in a patient comprising:
- (1) obtaining a sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue from said patient;
- (2) determining by quantitative PCR of cDNA the expression of a panel of genes comprising TPX2 in said sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue;
- (3) prognosing said patient as having a decreased likelihood of prostate cancer progression when the expression of the gene TPX2 is lower than a threshold index value;
- and (4) administering to said patient active surveillance based on the prognosis.

A method of treating prostate cancer in a patient comprising:
- (1) obtaining a sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue from said patient;
- (2) determining by quantitative PCR of cDNA the expression of a panel of genes comprising TPX2 in said sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue;
- (3) prognosing said patient as having an increased likelihood of prostate cancer progression when the expression of the gene TPX2 exceeds a threshold index value;
- and (4) administering to said patient one or more of chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery based on the prognosis.
