Abstract
The present invention relates to novel biguanide derivatives including their pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The invention also relates processes for the preparation of, intermediates used in the preparation of, pharmaceutical compositions containing and the uses of such compounds in treating disorders such as diabetes.

- R1 is alkyl, functionalized (heteroatom substituted) alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, heterocyclic, carboxylate drug conjugate, fatty acid conjugate, bile acid conjugate, or amino acid conjugate;
- R2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclic, aryl
- R3 is (C═O)R2, C(R4)2O(C═O)R5, C(R4)2O(C═O)OR5, C(R4)2O(P═O)(OX)2, C(R4)2O(C═O)N(R6)2, C(R4)2O(C═O)(CHR4)NR6R4, or C(R4)2O(C═O)(CHR6)N(R6)2,
- R4 is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, CO2R1
- R5 is alkyl, functionalized alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl;
- R6 is H or R5;
- and
- X is H, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, +NH3CH2CH2OH, +N(R2)4, +NH4
