Abstract
Methods for quantifying biospecimen sample integrity using oxidation. Embodiments include assessing ex vivo oxidation of a biospecimen sample by quantifying a difference in protein oxidation of the biospecimen sample in comparison to protein oxidation of a portion of the biospecimen sample intentionally incubated to cause oxidation to hit its maximum value. The difference in a level of oxidation in the biospecimen sample and the potion of the biospecimen sample is then inversely proportional to the degree of ex vivo oxidation.
Claims12
A method for assessing ex vivo oxidation of a biospecimen sample, comprising:
- quantifying a difference in protein oxidation of said biospecimen sample in comparison to protein oxidation of a portion of said biospecimen sample intentionally incubated to cause oxidation to hit its maximum value, wherein said difference in a level of oxidation in the biospecimen sample and said potion of the biospecimen sample is inversely proportional to the degree of ex vivo oxidation.
A method for assessing oxidation of a biospecimen sample, comprising:
- quantifying an amount of protein oxidation of said biospecimen sample;
- and
- comparing said amount of protein oxidation to that of a portion of said biospecimen sample intentionally incubated to cause oxidation to hit its maximum value, wherein a difference in a level of oxidation in the biospecimen sample and said potion of the biospecimen sample is inversely proportional to the degree of oxidation.
A method of assessing an oxidation level difference between a biospecimen sample and a control sample, comprising:
- quantifying a difference in protein oxidation of said biospecimen sample in comparison to protein oxidation of a portion of said biospecimen sample intentionally incubated to cause oxidation to hit its maximum value, wherein said difference in a level of oxidation in the biospecimen sample and said potion of the biospecimen sample is inversely proportional to the degree of oxidation;
- and
- quantifying a difference in protein oxidation of said control sample in comparison to protein oxidation of a portion of said control sample intentionally incubated to cause oxidation to hit its maximum value, wherein said difference in a level of oxidation in the control sample and said potion of the control sample is inversely proportional to the degree of oxidation;
- and
- assessing a difference in oxidation level between said biospecimen sample and said control sample by comparing the degree of oxidation of said biospecimen sample and said control sample.
The method of claim therein said biospecimen is blood plasma or serum.
