Abstract
A vacuum pump with dynamic control of cooling fan speed and motor flux is provided to reduce transmitted noise and waste heat and provide a quieter, more efficient pump.
Claims12
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the flux value generated in the electric motor is dependent on the power and/or torque required by the vacuum pump in response to different pumping requirements.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the cooling value is dependent on the flux generated in the electric motor and on at least one other characteristic of the vacuum system.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the flux of the electric motor is reduced at least in part in proportion to a reduction in power or torque required by the vacuum pump.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the control is arranged to generate a rated flux in the electric motor at a rated power or torque requirement of the electric motor and a reduced flux at a reduced value of power or torque.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the cooling value is proportional at least in part to the flux generated in the electric motor.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the cooling value is maintained generally constant above a predetermined value of flux or power and reduced below the predetermined value.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the cooling arrangement comprises a fan driven by a fan motor and the control is arranged to control the fan motor to vary the speed of the fan.
The vacuum system of claim 1, wherein the cooling system comprises a cooling fluid circulation system and the control is arranged to control at least one of a temperature of the fluid, a pump for causing circulation of the fluid or a valve arrangement for allowing circulation of the fluid.
