Window Vent Stop with Flexible Side Engagement Pieces

4 A vent stop, for use in an opening on a stile of a sash window, said vent stop comprising;

• a housing having a first end and a second end, said housing comprising:
• a top plate and One or more walls, said one or more walls joined to and extending from a bottom surface of said top plate to create a cavity;
• at least a portion of said top plate configured to overhang beyond at least a portion of said one or more wails to create a lip, said top plate comprising an opening into said cavity;
• a bottom wall configured to connect said one or more housing walls;
• a tumbler pivotally mounted in said housing cavity, and configured for actuation of a first end of said tumbler to cause said tumbler to pivot outwardly from a retracted tumbler position in to an extended tumbler position, said extended tumbler position being a position where a portion of said tumbler protrudes out from said opening in said top plate;
• said tumbler further configured for actuation of a second end of said tumbler to cause said tumbler to pivot inwardly into said retracted tumbler position;
• a first retention member configured to secure said first end of said housing to a first end of the opening in the window stile;
• a second retention member configured to secure said second end of said housing to a second end of the opening in the window stile;
• a spring configured to bias said tumbler toward said extended tumbler position when said first end of said tumbler is actuated to cause said tumbler to initially pivot outwardly;
• and
• means for biasing said tumbler toward said retracted tumbler position when said tumbler is actuated to pivot inwardly at least a portion of the way from said extended tumbler position toward said retracted tumbler position.

A vent stop for use in an opening of a stile of a sash window, said vent stop comprising:

• a housing having a first end and a second end, said housing comprising:
• a top plate and one or more walls, said one or more walls joined to and extending from a bottom surface of said top plate to create a cavity;
• at least a portion of said top plate configured to overhang beyond at least a portion of said one or more walls to create a lip, said top plate comprising an opening into said cavity;
• a bottom wall configured to connect said one or more housing walls;
• a tumbler pivotally mounted in said housing cavity, and configured for actuation of a first end of said tumbler to cause said tumbler to pivot outwardly from a retracted tumbler position into an extended tumbler position, said extended tumbler position being a position where a portion of said tumbler protrudes out from said opening in said top plate;
• said tumbler further configured for actuation of a second end of said tumbler to cause said tumbler to pivot inwardly into said retracted tumbler position;
• a first retention member configured to secure said first end of said housing to a first end of the opening in the window stile;
• a second retention member configured to secure said second end of said housing to a second end of the opening in the window stile;
• a spring having a first end and a second end, said second end of said spring configured to contact and bias said tumbler toward said extended tumbler position when said first end of said tumbler is actuated to cause said tumbler to initially pivot outwardly;
• and
• means for attracting said tumbler into said retracted tumbler position, when said tumbler is actuated to pivot inwardly at least a portion of the way from said extended tumbler position toward said retracted tumbler position.
