Abstract
A nanocomposite material comprises polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as a base polymer and a nanoparticle that increases the strength of the base polymer.
Claims21
1-17. (canceled)
A graphene reinforced material for injection molding, comprising:
- a first portion comprised of polyethylene terephthalate (PET);
- and
- a second portion comprised of a graphene nanoplatelet material that is compounded with the first portion to form a masterbatch product suitable for injection molding.
A graphene reinforced material for injection molding, comprising:
- a base polymer comprised of polyethylene terephthalate (PET);
- and
- a graphene nanoplatelet material comprised of nanoplatelets having an average diameter of 5 micrometers and compounded with the PET such that the graphene nanoplatelet material comprises between ten and fifteen percent by weight of a masterbatch product suitable for injection molding.
A method for graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate (PET), comprising:
- obtaining a first portion that is comprised of PET base polymer;
- providing a second portion that is comprised of a graphene nanoplatelet material that includes exfoliated nanoplatelets having an average diameter of 5 micrometers;
- selecting a quantity of the second portion to produce a desired percentage by weight of a masterbatch product;
- compounding the first portion with the second portion to create the masterbatch product;
- and
- configuring the masterbatch product to be suitable for further processing to create a completed product.
