A roof tile having a mesh covered foam core with a cement-based protective coating, a roof covering formed from such tiles and methods for making same.

A roof tile, a multiplicity of which provide a membrane for a roof structure comprising:
- a foam core between approximately 15 and 20 inches long, between approximately 10 and 20 inches wide and between approximately 1 and 2 inches thick;
- strengthening material on the foam core;
- cement-based protective coating on said foam core.
