A method of identifying a subject who will respond to treatment with rifaximin for IBS, said method comprising
- analyzing the V4 hyper-variable region of the 16S rRNA gene of bacteria present in the subject's GI tract microbiome;
- and
- determining the identity of the bacteria, wherein if the identity of the bacteria belongs to one or more taxa selected from Sphingobacteriacease, Phyllobacteriaceae, Flavobacteriaceae, Nocardiaceae, Pseudomonadaceae, and burkholderiaceae, then the subject will respond to the treatment with rifaximin for IBS.
A method of identifying a subject who will not respond to treatment with rifaximin for IBS, said method comprising
- analyzing the V4 hyper-variable region of the 16S rRNA gene of bacteria present in the subject's GI tract microbiome;
- and
- determining the identity of the bacteria, wherein if the identity of the bacteria belongs to one or more taxa selected from Sutterellacae, Thermoanaerobacteraceae, and Burkholderiales incertae sedis, Desufomicrobiaceae, Victivallaceae, Succinvibrionaceae, Moraxellaceae, Prevotellaceae, Clostridiaceae-1, Thermicrobiaceae, Enterococcaceae, Peptococcaceae-1, and Veillonellaceae, then the subject will not respond to the treatment with rifaximin for IBS.
