Abstract
Embodiments relate to a portable device that is configured to project an image onto a secondary surface, and to support interaction with the projected image. The device is configured with an embedded projector to display indicia on a secondary surface. More specifically, the projector is configured to project an interactive image onto a secondary surface. The device is employed to communicate and interact with one or more components displayed within the image. Data related to the interaction is acquired by the device and stored local to the device or communicated to a secondary device.
Claims33
A method comprising:
- receiving an image to be projected onto a secondary surface;
- measuring a distance from projection origination to the secondary surface;
- measuring orientation of the projection origination with respect to the secondary surface;
- calculating image geometry and image location in a projection area proximal to the secondary surface, the calculation based on the measured orientation of the projection origination and the measured distance, including calculating any corrections to a geometry of the image;
- and
- applying the correction, the application creating a corrected image projection on the secondary surface.
A system comprising:
- a processing unit in communication with memory configured to receive an image to be projected onto a secondary surface;
- a rangefinder operatively coupled to the processing unit and configured to measure a distance from projection origination to the secondary surface;
- an orientation unit operatively coupled to the processing unit configured to measure orientation data of the projection origination;
- a tool in communication with the processing unit and configured to:
- calculate image geometry and image location with respect to a projection area proximal to the secondary surface, the calculation based on the measured orientation of the projection origination and the measured distance, including calculating a correction to a geometry of the image;
- and
- create a corrected image, including application of the correction;
- and
- a projector operatively coupled to the processing unit and configured to project the corrected image onto the secondary surface.
A computer program product for projecting and interacting with an image, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage device having program code embodied therewith, the program code executable by a processor to:
- receive an image to be projected onto a secondary surface;
- measure a distance from projection origination to the secondary surface;
- measure orientation of the projection origination with respect to the secondary surface;
- calculate image geometry and image location in a projection area proximal to the secondary surface, the calculation based on the measured orientation of the projection origination and measured distance, including calculation of any corrections to a geometry of the image;
- and
- apply the correction, the application to create a corrected image projection on the secondary surface.
