Abstract
The invention provides protein adhesives and methods of making and using such adhesives. The protein adhesives contain ground plant meal or an isolated polypeptide composition obtained from plant biomass.
Claims24
An adhesive composition comprising:
- (a) from about 1% to about 90% (w/w) of a reactive prepolymer;
- and
- (b) ground plant meal in an amount sufficient to disperse the reactive prepolymer in an aqueous medium.
An adhesive composition comprising:
- (a) from about 1% to about 90% (w/w) of a reactive prepolymer;
- (b) from about 10% to about 98% (w/w) of an isolated polypeptide composition capable of dispersing the reactive prepolymer in an aqueous medium;
- and
- (c) at least about 1% (w/w) of a formaldehyde scavenging agent.

A two-part adhesive composition comprising:
- (a) a first part (Part A) comprising from about 5% to about 90% (w/w) of a reactive prepolymer, wherein the reactive prepolymer is a polyisocyanate-based prepolymer, an epoxy-based prepolymer, or a combination thereof;
- (b) a second part (Part B) comprising from about 10% to about 99% (w/w) of an isolated polypeptide composition capable of dispersing the reactive prepolymer in an aqueous medium;
- and
- wherein at least one of Part A or Part B comprises at least about 1% (w/w) of a formaldehyde scavenging agent.
