Abstract
Methods and catalyst compositions for oxidizing CO to CO2 at low temperatures arc disclosed. In embodiment, a method of oxidizing CO to CO2 may involve heating a gaseous mixture comprising at least CO and O2 with a catalyst mixture comprising Pd disposed on a Mn3O4mesoporous support at a temperature of about 0° C. to about 60° C., and wherein the CO to CO2 conversion rate is about 40% to about 100%.
Claims39
A method of oxidizing CO to CO2, the method comprising:
- heating a gaseous mixture and a catalyst mixture, wherein the gaseous mixture comprises CO and O2, and wherein the catalyst mixture comprises at least Pd and Mn3O4 at a temperature of about 0° C. to about 60° C.;
- wherein the heating yields CO to CO2 conversion rate of about 40% to about 100%.

A Pd/Mn3O4 catalyst comprising:
- a mesoporous Mn3O4 support;
- and
- at least one Pd nanoparticle disposed on at least a portion of the mesoporous Mn3O4 support, wherein the Pd is present in the Pd/Mn3O4 catalyst in an amount of about 1 weight percent to about 5 weight percent.
A system for oxidizing CO to CO2, the system comprising:
- a gas source configured to supply a gaseous mixture;
- a reactor configured to contain a volume of catalyst, wherein the catalyst comprises at least Pd and Mn3O4, and the reactor comprises an inlet configured to receive the gaseous mixture such that the gaseous mixture passes through the volume of catalyst, and an outlet configured to allow gaseous mixture that has passed through the volume of catalyst to exit the reactor, and
- the reactor is configured to convert CO to CO2 at a rate of about 40% to about 100% when heated to a temperature of about 0° C. to about 60° C.
