Therapeutic composition

A pharmaceutical topical gel formulation comprising:

• at least one diuretic;
• at least one cardiac glycoside;
• alkylene glycol in the range of about 20-60% w/w;
• ethanol in the range of about 20-60% w/w;
• at least one thickener in the range of about 0.5% to 5% w/w;
• a buffer which maintains the formulation pH at about pH 3 to about pH 8;
• and
• optionally, polyalkylene glycol in the range of about 0-20% w/w;
• q.s. with water,
• wherein the concentrations are based on the total weight of the formulation, further wherein the topical gel formulation is anti-viral.
