Abstract
Described herein are inhibitors of Aurora kinase and their use in the treatment of cancer. Methods of screening for selective inhibitors of Aurora kinases are also disclosed.

A method of treating cancer, comprising the step of administering to a patient in need thereof a compound of the following formula:
- wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of H, Cl, F, Br, I, C1-C6 alkyl, CN, NO2, and NH2;
- R2 is H, F, or Cl;
- each R3 is 2-Cl;
- and each R4 is selected, independently, from the group consisting of H, COOH, CONH2, CONHR5, SO2NH2, CONHSO2R5, tetrazole, 4-morpholine, or COR5, wherein R5 is C1-C6 alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroaryl, or heteroalkyl, n is 1, and m is 1-5, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of treating cancer, comprising the step of administering to a patient in need thereof a compound of the following formula:

- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-CH2—COOH, and R5 is H;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH and meta-OH, and R5 is H;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is meta-COOH, and R5 is H;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-CONH2, and R5 is H;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH, and R5 is CH3;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH, and R5 is CH3—CH2;
- R1 is F, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is meta-COOH, and R is H;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH and meta OH;
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH, and R5 is H;
- R1 is F, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-COOH, and R5 is H;
- R1 is F, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is H, and R is H;
- or
- R1 is H, R3 is ortho-Cl, R4 is para-OCH3, and R5 is H.
