Abstract
Disclosed is a system for endoscopically implanting a medical implant, including an anchor, within a body cavity such as adjacent the gastroesophageal junction in a human stomach. The system includes one or more anchors positionable within one or more openings formed in tissue within the body cavity, such as cutouts formed in plicated body tissue. Tools are disclosed for positioning the anchors within the openings, and for coupling a food restrictor to the anchors.
Claims10
A medical implant system for use in the stomach of a patient, comprising
- an intraoral plication device for forming in the patient's stomach, by intraoral access, a tissue plication having an opening surrounded by a plurality of staples,
- an anchor having a base, an elastically deformable head, and a stem connecting the base and head, said base and said head in its undeformed state having dimensions larger than that of the plication opening formed by said device, allowing the anchor to be attached to said plication, with the anchor stem extending through said opening, by pulling the anchor head in a deformed state through said opening, and
- a grasper tool adapted, with said anchor delivered into a patient's stomach adjacent said plication to:
- (i) be manipulated through said plication opening, (ii) grasp the anchor head, (iii) pull the anchor head through said opening, by deforming the anchor head, thereby to attach the anchor to the tissue plication, and (iv) detach from the anchor.
