Infusion extracting apparatus and method

An apparatus for separating an infused extract from a mixture of an infusible material and the extract while also allowing easy removal of the infusible material, the apparatus comprising:

• a container configured to prepare beverages and hold the mixture of infused extract and infusible material, the container having an opening, a bottom, a vertical axis and centerline that extends between said container opening and bottom, and one or more inner walls oriented substantially parallel to said a vertical axis and centerline;
• an insert adapted to be inserted into said container through said opening and removably seated at the bottom thereof;
• an elongated plunger element;
• a filter attached to said elongated plunger element and which is adapted for separating the infusible material from the infused extract as the elongated plunging element is moved down along the vertical axis of said container;
• and
• a coupling attached to said filter and adapted to couple said elongated plunger element with said insert for the purpose of removing said insert from said container;
• wherein the insert and the filter are further adapted to hold the infusible material between the filter and the insert when the elongated plunger element is coupled with the insert and removed from the container.
