## Abstract

The invention provides a multi-ply tissue product having different surface characteristics on each side of the product. The multi-ply tissue product may be formed from two or more plies where one surface is formed by a substantially smooth creped ply and the other surface is formed by a textured through-air dried ply. In this manner the tissue product may be used for both personal care, which requires a soft and smooth surface, and general household wiping, which requires a rough, durable surface.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A multi-ply tissue product comprising at least two fibrous plies, each ply consisting essentially of hardwood kraft pulp fibers and softwood kraft pulp fibers, the tissue product having a top and a bottom surface and a Surface Smoothness Ratio greater than about 1.4.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 having a GMT from about 500 to about 1,200 g/3″.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 having a sheet bulk from about 8 to about 20 cc/g.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 having a basis weight from about 40 to about 60 gsm.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 further comprising a third tissue ply comprising hardwood kraft pulp fibers and softwood kraft pulp fibers.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 5 wherein the first and the second tissue ply are substantially smooth creped tissue plies and the third ply is a through-air dried ply.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 wherein the Surface Smoothness Ratio is from about 1.5 to about 2.2.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 wherein the Surface Smoothness Ratio is from about 1.5 to about 2.2 and the tissue product has a sheet bulk greater than about 9 cc/g and a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 wherein the Surface Smoothness Ratio is from about 1.5 to about 2.2 and the tissue product has a sheet caliper greater than about 500 μm and a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 wherein the first surface has a Surface Smoothness of about 0.006 or less and the second surface has a Surface Smoothness of about 0.009 or greater.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The multi-ply tissue product of claim 1 wherein each ply comprises at least about 30 percent, by weight of the ply, softwood kraft pulp fibers.
