### Claim 1

A compound having the structure of Formula I:
wherein R is a hydrogen, hydroxyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C6 alkyl group, X is an organic or inorganic anion, and L is a linker having one of the following structures:

A pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound of claim 1 in admixture with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

### Claim 3

A method for preventing or treating a bacterial infection comprising administering to a subject in need of treatment an effective amount of the pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound having the structure of Formula I:
wherein R is a hydrogen, hydroxyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C6 alkyl group, X is an organic or inorganic anion, and L is a linker having one of the following structures.
thereby preventing or treating the subject's bacterial infection.
