Abstract
A device and method for use with an image recording device. The device having a background target and a first surface including the background target recessed therein. The device further including a substrate stabilizer configured to move a substrate having an image printed therein in closer proximity to the background target and below the first surface when activated.

A method for measuring a transitive substrate, the method comprising:
- positioning a background target relative to a portion of the transitive substrate;
- maintaining the transitive substrate within a distance of no more than about 0.290 inches of the background target using a computer controlled stabilizer, wherein the transitive substrate is not in continuous contact with the background target;
- and
- imaging the transitive substrate with an image recording device.

A device for use with a color sensing camera, comprising:
- a background target,
- a first surface including the background target recessed therein;
- and
- a substrate stabilizer configured to move a substrate having an image printed thereon in closer proximity to the background target within a distance of no more than about 0.290 inches of the background target, wherein the transitive substrate is not in continuous contact with the background target and is below the first surface when the stabilizer activated.

A method of substrate stabilization and color monitoring during transitive substrate printing, the method comprising:
- positioning a background target on a first side of a transitive substrate;
- aligning an image recording device with the target, wherein the image recording device is positioned on a second side of the transitive substrate;
- activating first and second substrate stabilizers located adjacent to the background target to move the transitive substrate having an image printed thereon in closer proximity to the background target within a distance of no more than about 0.290 inches of the background target;
- and
- activating the image recording device.
