Abstract
The present invention is a linear internal combustion free-piston engine with three acting pistons per combustion chamber, that has the ability to store energy until needed. This engine utilizes a spring to store potential energy after combustion. The present invention also introduces additional air into the combustion chamber during the combustion cycle providing a more complete burn of the fuel, has the ability to self-start, and does not idle. Multiple engines can be married together and run as a single unit.
Claims14
A linear combustion engine comprising:
- three cylinders, with the first cylinder being the combustion cylinder having a wall, a head attached at its first end and the distal end being attached to a body, with the combustion chamber being beneath the head, where;
- the second cylinder being an air cylinder that is also the main shaft with one end located interiorly to the combustion cylinder and the distal end located interiorly of the third cylinder, also having a wall and both ends defined by attached opposing pistons and being further defined as also being a rack.
- the third cylinder being the oil cylinder having a wall and is open at its top end and closed at its distal end by the base of the engine, where the oil cylinder is defined by being one unit with the base of the engine;
- and
- having three acting pistons, where the first piston is the combustion piston that has at least one provision in its head being an air jacket that is a through opening to the air cylinder, and is located in the combustion cylinder beneath the head having the combustion chamber above it;
- and
- the second piston being a stationary piston that extends from the base of the engine through the center of the oil cylinder where it is also one unit with the base, and its head is located within the air cylinder and is also defined by having a through air hole with one opening in its head and the other opening where the stationary piston is one with the base open to outside air;
- and
- the third piston being the oiling piston that is attached to the distal end of the main shaft and further defined by being located within the oil cylinder and is opposing the combustion piston, where the oiling piston has two provisions in its head being oil outlets;
- and
- having at least one spring that is used as an energy storing device where the energy created by combustion is stored on the spring and the spring is held until energy is required;
- and
- having a controlled exhaust valve that does not open immediately after combustion but opens only as the spring is released to preform work.
