System, method and personalizable portable device in which application code libraries are distributed in a compressed form

A personalizable portable electronic device comprising:

• a processor connected to the reprogrammable non-volatile memory;
• and
• a reprogrammable non-volatile memory connected to the processor and for storing of application programs and libraries including instructions executable by the processor, the non-volatile memory comprising:
• a plurality of compressed application code libraries;
• a decompressor operable to cause the processor to decompress an application code library required by application programs activated on the portable electronic device and to store the decompressed application code library corresponding to the application code library required by activated applications programs into the non-volatile memory.

A portable electronic device personalization system for personalizing an electronic device having a non-volatile memory, comprising:

• a mechanism to detect which application code libraries are required for applications activated on the electronic device;
• a mechanism to decompress the required application code libraries loaded in nonvolatile memory on the electronic device;
• and
• a mechanism to delete any compressed application code libraries from the non-volatile memory after the required application code libraries have been decompressed.
