Abstract
An RJ-45 insertion and extraction tool is disclosed that allows a user to plug and unplug an RJ-45 connector from an RJ-45 socket in a quick and easy way that does not disturb other cables plugged into adjacent sockets.
Claims15
A method of extracting an RJ-45 plug from a socket, comprising:
- placing a portable rectangular housing having an open end over an RJ-45 connector, the portable rectangular housing further including a tine adjacent to the open end of the housing;
- sliding the housing over the RJ-45 connector;
- releasing the RJ-45 connector from the socket by continuing to slide the housing until the tine depresses an RJ-45 connector tab unlocking the RJ-45 connector from the socket;
- and
- removing the RJ-45 connector and the rectangular housing around the RJ-45 connector from the socket.

A method of inserting an RJ-45 plug into a socket, comprising:
- seating the RJ-45 plug in a portable rectangular housing having an open end, the RJ-45 plug further including an RJ-45 connector tab, the portable rectangular housing further including a tine adjacent to the open end of the housing, the tine further touching the RJ-45 connector tab when the RJ-45 plug is seated in the portable rectangular housing;
- inserting the RJ-45 connector into the socket;
- and
- removing the rectangular housing from the RJ-45 connector, when the rectangular housing is removed the RJ-45 connector tab further detached from the tine and then locking the RJ-connector in the socket.

A method of inserting an RJ-45 plug into a socket and extracting an RJ-45 plug from the socket, comprising:
- seating the RJ-45 plug in a portable rectangular housing having an open end, the RJ-45 plug further including an RJ-45 connector tab, the portable rectangular housing further including a tine adjacent to the open end of the housing, the tine further touching the RJ-45 connector tab when the RJ-45 plug is seated in the portable rectangular housing;
- inserting the RJ-45 connector into the socket;
- removing the rectangular housing from the RJ-45 connector, when the rectangular housing is removed the RJ-45 connector tab further detached from the tine and then locking the RJ-connector in the socket;
- placing the portable rectangular housing over the RJ-45 connector;
- sliding the housing over the RJ-45 connector;
- releasing the RJ-45 connector from the socket by continuing to slide the housing until the tine depresses an RJ-45 connector tab unlocking the RJ-45 connector from the socket;
- and
- removing the RJ-45 connector and the rectangular housing around the RJ-45 connector from the socket.
