An undergarment portion, comprising:
- at least one absorbent layer comprising a body-contacting surface, the at least one absorbent layer having an absorbent capacity of at least about 300 g/m2, the at least one absorbent layer configured to absorb up to about 50 ml of fluid;
- and
- at least one hydrophobic layer disposed adjacent to the at least one absorbent layer, the at least one hydrophobic layer comprising an outer surface disposed on an opposite side of the absorbent layer from the body-contacting surface, the at least one hydrophobic layer being configured to contain the absorbed fluids;
- wherein the at least one hydrophobic layer comprises a fabric having fibers that have been coated or saturated with an elastic water repellent polymer;
- wherein the absorbed liquids are non-poolingly distributed across the at least one absorbent layer via wicking;
- and wherein the fluids are absorbed into the fibers of the at least one absorbent layer.
