Access control through dynamic grouping

A computer-program product tangibly embodied in a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, including instructions configured to cause a data processing apparatus to perform operations including:

• receiving a data packet containing a payload, a source address indicative of a source device, and a destination address indicative of a destination device;
• accessing group access control information containing information for a plurality of groups, wherein each group includes a group owner and a member list, and wherein each member on the list is associated with an address;
• determining that the source device belongs to a particular group by comparing the source address to the addresses associated with the members on the member lists;
• determining a permission for the particular group;
• and
• facilitating delivery of the payload to the destination device based on the determined permission.

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

• receiving, at a computing device, a data packet containing a payload, a source address indicative of a source device, and a destination address indicative of a destination device;
• accessing group access control information containing information for a plurality of groups, wherein each group includes a group owner and a member list, and wherein each member on the list is associated with an address;
• determining that the source device belongs to a particular group by comparing the source address to the addresses associated with the members on the member lists;
• determining a permission for the particular group;
• and
• facilitating delivery of the payload to the destination device based on the determined permission.
