Abstract
A method to prepare a catheter locking formulation, comprising in a first step, dissolving trimethoprim in propylene glycol at a temperature greater than room temperature, and in a final step, adding absolute ethanol at about room temperature to a solution of trimethoprim, propylene glycol, EDTA Calcium Disodium Hydrate, phosphate buffered saline, and glycerin.
Claims23
A method to prepare a catheter locking formulation, comprising:
- in a first step, dissolving trimethoprim in propylene glycol at a temperature greater than room temperature;
- and
- in a final step, adding absolute ethanol at about room temperature to a solution of trimethoprim, propylene glycol, EDTA Calcium Disodium Hydrate, phosphate buffered saline, and glycerin.
An assembly comprising a continuous flow tubular reactor comprising an input end and an output end, an input pump assembly disposed adjacent said input end, a first dissolution zone disposed immediately downstream from said input end, a second dissolution zone downstream from said first dissolution zone, a third dissolution zone downstream from said second dissolution zone, a fourth dissolution zone downstream from said third dissolution zone, a fifth dissolution zone downstream from said fourth dissolution zone, said assembly further comprising a controller comprising a programmable computer processor and a non-transitory computer readable medium in communication with said controller and having computer readable program code encoded therein to prepare a catheter locking formulation, the computer readable program code comprising a series of computer readable program steps to effect:
- injecting a trimethoprim/propylene glycol mixture into said continuous flow reactor via said input pump assembly;
- injecting into said fifth dissolution zone absolute ethanol to form a solution of trimethoprim, propylene glycol, EDTA Calcium Disodium Hydrate, phosphate buffered saline, and glycerin.
A computer program product encoded in a non-transitory computer readable medium disposed in a continuous flow tubular reactor comprising an input end and an output end, an input pump assembly disposed adjacent said input end, a first dissolution zone disposed immediately downstream from said input end, a second dissolution zone downstream from said first dissolution zone, a third dissolution zone downstream from said second dissolution zone, a fourth dissolution zone downstream from said third dissolution zone, a fifth dissolution zone downstream from said fourth dissolution zone, said assembly further comprising a controller comprising a programmable computer processor in communication with computer readable program code encoded in said non-transitory computer readable medium to prepare a catheter locking formulation, comprising:
- computer readable program code which causes said programmable computer processor to, in a first step, inject trimethoprim and propylene glycol into said first dissolution zone at a temperature greater than room temperature;
- and
- computer readable program code which causes said programmable computer processor to, in a final step, inject absolute ethanol into a solution of trimethoprim, propylene glycol, EDTA Calcium Disodium Hydrate, phosphate buffered saline, and glycerin, at about room temperature.
