Abstract
A system, method, and computer-readable storage medium configured to verify minimum age of accountholders, to enable age restrictions on purchases.

A real-time method of verifying a minimum age of an accountholder in a payment transaction, the method comprising:
- receiving, with a network interface, transaction data from an acquirer, the transaction data describing the payment transaction and including:
- an account identifier associated with the accountholder and a minimum age inquiry, the minimum age inquiry specifying a minimum transaction age;
- matching, with a processor, the account identifier with an accountholder entry in a database, the accountholder entry including a birthdate of the accountholder;
- determining, with the processor, an accountholder age based on a present date and the birthdate of the accountholder;
- transmitting to the acquirer, with the network interface, a transaction decline when the accountholder age is less than the minimum transaction age.

- a network interface configured to transaction data from an acquirer, the transaction data describing the payment transaction and including:

- determining, with a processor, that an age-restricted good or service is being purchased, the age-restricted good or service having a minimum transaction age;
- receiving from a payment device, by a communication interface, an account identifier associated with an accountholder;
- transmitting to the payment device, by the communication interface a minimum age inquiry, the minimum age inquiry specifying a minimum transaction age;
- receiving from the payment device a response to the minimum age inquiry by the communication interface;
- displaying a transaction decline when the response indicates the accountholder does not meet the minimum transaction age.
