Abstract
A fan of a computing system is associated with a performance characteristic. It may be determined whether a component associated with the computing system is installed based on the performance characteristic.

A method implemented by a computing system comprising at least one processor, the method comprising the at least one processor operating a computing system fan according to:
- a first set of operational parameters when an installable component associated with the computing system fan is not installed;
- and
- a second set of operational parameters when the installable component is installed.
A computing system comprising:
- a fan;
- and
- a controller that:
- determines whether an installable component associated with the fan is installed;
- and
- operates the computing system fan according to:
- a first set of operational parameters when the installable component is not installed;
- and
- a second set of operational parameters when the installable component is installed.
