Valve stem and plug connections and staking tools

A method comprising:

• inserting a valve stem into a valve plug, an end of the valve stem extending outward from a bottom of the valve plug, an outer surface of the valve stem being threaded, the valve stem having a threaded bore extending into the end of the valve stem along a longitudinal axis of the valve stem and a circular rim extending outward from the end of the valve stem;
• threading a nut onto the outer surface of the valve stem;
• coupling a staking tool onto the end of the valve stem in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the valve stem, the staking tool having one or more staking ears that engage the circular rim on the end of the valve stem;
• and
• deforming the circular rim radially outward via the one or more staking ears in one or more areas to prevent rotation of the nut relative to the valve stem.

A staking tool comprising:

• a body having a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface and a third surface between the first and second surfaces;
• a bore extending through the body along a longitudinal axis of the body, the bore having first section with a first width at the second surface and a second section with a second width adjacent the first surface, the second width less than the first width, the bore to receive a bolt with a head of the bolt being disposed within the first section of the bore and a threaded shaft of the bolt extending through the second section of the bore and beyond the first surface of the body;
• and
• one or more staking walls projecting from the first surface of the body.
